5 Cafes to Escape from the Buzz of Marrakech

Probably no one would disagree that Marrakech is one of the greatest, most authentic, and slightly overwhelming cities in the world. I remember when I first went there almost 10 years ago. My holiday was coming to an end, and I went to the airport to catch my flight home, already feeling relieved that I was leaving that crazy city. Then, suddenly, I was told I had confused my flight date—it was actually the next day. I had to return to that chaos for another 24 hours. I wasn’t happy about it, and at the time, I thought I’d never want to come back to Morocco! Never say never! By my own choice, I returned again... and again...
Marrakech’s medina, the old town, is super chaotic. Traffic is wild, there’s lots of hustling with sellers, and the noise is overwhelming. As I like to say, I can’t even hear my own thoughts when I’m in Marrakech! I’m not kidding. The peace and quiet I crave, I find in the beautiful Moroccan boho cafés. In this blog post, I want to share a few places I love in Marrakech. If you feel like you need a moment to rest and catch your breath, check them out, relax, and enjoy!

Café Des Épices

Situated in the middle of Marrakech’s medina, overlooking Souk Laghzel, where artisans create all kinds of things from straw and wicker. Since it’s located in a very central souk area, I often stop there for lunch or coffee. As with all the cafés I mention in this blog, the food is a bit overpriced for the quality, but it’s worth paying a little extra for the chance to quiet your mind and enjoy the views of the souks from above!

Atay Café offers two rooftop terraces with perfect views of a nearby mosque. If you’re looking for that Instagram-worthy shot, this is the place! What I really love about this café is that it wasn’t as crowded as others when I visited. I enjoyed my healthy quinoa salad and admired the unique décor. So many authentic pillows! I love it!

A few steps away from the main street of the souk, Le Jardin Secret is a peaceful green oasis! It’s a little fancier than the other cafés I mention here, making it a perfect spot for a romantic dinner. The soothing chirping of canaries will put you at ease, and you’ll experience a moment of serenity.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to dine there because you need to make a reservation beforehand. Nonetheless, the stylish, overgrown courtyard invites you to sit down and enjoy delicious meals while having great conversations. I’d love to return and confirm that the food is as delicious as I imagine!

If you’re exploring outside the souk area, visit Le Kilim, located in the modern part of Marrakech. I stopped by for my favorite nous-nous (half coffee, half milk) and to check out the interior!

Despite the constant buzz and hustle, Marrakech has grown on me. I have to admit, I enjoy the vibe now! Every time I return home, I feel energized and inspired by the interiors, textures, and colors. I hope you will too! Have fun and immerse yourself in the Moroccan rhythm!
