My Story

1000 Welcomes owner Toma Paulauskaite

Hi, I'm Toma, curator of boho and ethnic treasures, and the entrepreneur behind 1000 Welcomes!

So let me tell you a bit about how I got here. I was born and raised in a small town in Lithuania, and from a young age, I was filled with a great curiosity to explore the world beyond my hometown's borders. I yearned to immerse myself in the diversity of cultures and arts that our world had to offer. As I pursued my bachelor's degrees in Vilnius, and later in Malaysia, I seized every opportunity to satisfy my wanderlust by traveling to numerous countries around the globe. One of those unforgettable destinations was Morocco.

The first time I came to Morocco in 2013, the romance flamed up immediately—it was love at first sight. I was fascinated with breathtaking landscapes and colorful streets, rich culture, hospitable people, and mesmerizing arts and crafts. Arts and crafts… The day I was introduced to Moroccan textiles, I was hypnotized. I was amazed by how they're made—with precise hands, hard work, patience, and love. I saw spirit, tradition, and the whole history behind each rug and pillow. Very naturally, a thought popped up in my head, "One day I will come back and get them all!" To my own surprise, five years later, I did go back and purchased my first precious pieces.

1000 Welcomes, my nomadic bohemian space, was born genuinely, from my love of exploration and fondness for authentic products. At first, I was focused on Moroccan treasures, and I was a one-woman show, frequently traveling to Morocco to source from cooperatives and handpick all the products myself or with the help of locals. Every item was a unique piece of art with its own story, bringing along its soul and bohemian spirit into your house. Part of my dream was to connect small craft entrepreneurs around the world and support fair trade by helping talented producers in developing countries earn respectable earnings for their extraordinary products.

But my journey didn't end there. As I continued to explore the world and broaden my horizons, I got the idea to create something unique, and Bali became the source of inspiration. Bali enchanted me with its beauty and the artistry of its people. It was there that I conceived the concept of crafting beautiful silk kimono robes. Once the idea took root, I became captivated, observing the meticulous craftsmanship and the love poured into each piece.

Arts and crafts had always held a special place in my heart, and this time, it was Balinese kimono robes that ignited my passion. Now, 1000 Welcomes offers not only Moroccan treasures but also these exquisite silk kimono robes from Bali. Each piece in our collection tells a unique story and carries the essence of its place of origin, whether it's a Moroccan textiles or a Balinese silk kimono robe.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you'll discover something within our collection that truly resonates with you, transporting you to different corners of the world where culture and craftsmanship intertwine to create magic.

Yours, Toma
